Graphit is neccessary, ( I HATE using it! I end up with more on me then used on the beans), to lub the belts. They claim up to 7000 acres (If I recall) or maybe 3000 acres if not used. I wrecked 2 belts last season due to the big bean seed size issue. Metal isn't good for them either - nuts, bolts metal drill sprials ( I have no idea where that crap come from). The brushes can take abuse and most of mine will need replacing after this season. They work well in treated beans (accurate), where as with the jd meters, it changes the flow again. They payed for themselves in seed savings, even with the scale . . . .  So, yes there is maintinance as compared to JD factory meters  . . .
