Actually, I would think it would make things worse. It cuts it off, making a stouter, sharper stalk end. Neighbor of mine runs one of these on a 9870 with 710 duals. Has 6 stalk stompers to push the stalk, minimizing stubble wear. Ours runs down the row, not a lot of wear.
