used john deere plate planters in early 70's with good results, IH should not be any different from the deere. back then seed bags had a chart on them with proper plate # for seed size and seed dealer always had the proper plates for the planter. talk with seed sales person, they should be able to get right plates if they want to sell seed.

the plates were plastic and would show wear after a number of acres and needed to be replaced. used graphite on seed and hold your speed down. If memory is correct, we planted about 22-23,000 population with a spacing ofaround 8.5-9" in a 30' row.
