Subject: Re: TS PERFORMANCE CHIP PROBLEM IN JD 8420

Partially, but John Deere could also have built their engines more consistently so as to avoid this problem too. There is a local farmer who tried 2 tractors and said that whatever one could pull the best would be the one he would buy. He tried a Cat MT865B and a JD 9630T. An 18L Cat against a 13.5L JD. Surprisingly the JD outpulled the Cat, and by a notable margin. Farmer said I want to buy the JD. JD dealer said sure, we just have to take it back to the store first to complete some "updates". Farmer said the he** you are. That tractor stays here and you don't touch a thing. I think he knew fully well what had happened as it is common practice around here for JD dealers to turn up their tractors. You guessed it, within the first 300 hours that tractor had blown the crankshaft right out the bottom end. Who is at fault? He has the Cat now.
