I have found in our sandy soils that it is best to run the hipper roller on rain firmed ground if at all possible. If I do run it on fresh tilled ground I roll the backband on the 3pt as short as possible and tote more of the weight on the gauge wheels. Also if you will take a chisel plow point, cut it in half and weld it on the front of the shovels they will last 10x longer. I am still running the original shovels seven years later. I weld a new chisel half on when the old chisel wears even with the nose of the shovel. On my 4th chisels behind the tires and 3rd in the soft middles.
