Subject: Dry fertilizer on IH 800 12/30 planter

Southeast SD
Hey guys....love this forum. I'm trying to get into a little bit of farming on the side and have about 300 acres of my grandma's land that I will be putting into corn/soybeans next spring. I've got a IH 800 12 row 30" semi-mounted planter and was thinking the other day....."I wonder if I could use the insecticide boxes on each row unit to put down dry fertilizer right behind the seed......." Like I said I'm new to this and just had a thought. Don't know if its been tried or not or wouldn't work. I was just thinking rather than broadcast spreading all over if you could get that fertilizer right in the row maybe it'd be less fertilizer and work just as effective? Thanks for any inputs or thoughts.
