Subject: Narrow row planter idea, help appreciated

Princeton, MN
I would like to make a 15 in planter for soybeans. My idea is to find an 8 row 7100 jd planter and turn it into a 15-15". I have an old beat up 8 row 7000 that I will take the row units from and mount on the other planter.

The questions I have is how much would something like this weigh? I think that I would need lift assist wheels in order to lift it with a 7710 ford, but not sure. How do you make the lift assist wheels work with the narrow rows?

I am not very familiar with the 3 point mount planters and am wondering how to run the drive system with the narrow row units, mount it in the front? Maybe some type of hydraulic drive? How much can a used rawson drive be had for?

Has anyone done this before? Pictures of a unit like this would be nice. What else should I look at before I think about doing this?

Thanks in advance
