When they were hooks, GM had trouble with them opening up
(unbending
). They were sued by someone who was hurt when his ZR2 S-10 tow hook unbent.
If you are wondering why they don't just make better tow hooks, well, maybe that's why GM is no longer known for the quality standard they once had.
You'll just have to carry a clevis with you like everyone else does.
