A good Cummins mechanic can pretty tell by looking at the motor but for everybody else you will have to check the model and engine serial number which is on a stamped metal plate which is located on the front drivers side of the motor ahead of the air compressor. If the plate is missing ,look for a flat raised area at the very back of the block under the head ,about 3/4 inch wide and 2-3 inches long with numbers stamped in it.on the drivers side above the starter.This is the engine serial number,take it to any Cummins parts place and they can look it up and tell you every thing about the motor.
