you have to dig for it, but John Deere does give a spec to check the run out with a dial indicator. If you want the easy way and the way most JD Techs check it in the shop, ya run the tractor at slow idle and look to see if it wobbles much. Some times I even take a screw driver and touch the side so i can feel the play in it. There should be no or very little play in it. JD does give an hour or year spec, but from my experience as long as the damper doesn't get engine oil on it, they will last a lot longer. If you have priced the damper for your John Deere tractors lately, you will understand why John Deere tries to put an hour and year spec on them so that they can sell alot of them. ;)
