I see they are becoming more and more popular around here, construction and delivery businesses mainly, haven't seen any on the farms yet. I have seen corn loaded in roll offs " cable pulled models" on the eastern shore of Maryland, I don't think it is a common practice though.
The only down side I see in the hooklift trucks are the initial startup costs, have browsed thru them a few times in ebay and truckpaper and they strike me as pricey. If you have the work for it and looks like it is penciling well for you, go for it, As with anything else I suggest hard shopping, take advantage of the economy, some folks like the ones selling that truck are probably eager for a deal, they may bend a little further now than before !!!!!
