Subject: RE: CDL law confusion

Driftless SW Wisconsin

I got a "no CDL" ticket and put "out of service" for driving an EMPTY 11,000 door sticker 1 ton pu pulling an EMPTY 20,000 lb sticker gooseneck trailer. 11K + 20k = 31k. Guess what state this was! - had log book, med card etc. DOT man had to go back to his car to get his glasses to try to read the original sticker...

Obtained a new 14,500 lb sticker from the manufacturer for the same trailer (11k + 14.5k = 25.5k < 26K), applied it over the old sticker and am now legal as long as trailer + PU total actual does not exceed 25.5k. I like the space and brakes on a 20,000 lb gooseneck, don't use anywhere near the weight.

Door sticker weight rules.
