I owned a landoll 2220 disc/ripper for several years, and it was quite capable of leaving a lot of stuff on top, or very little since it had independently adjustable disc gangs for depth as well as angle of attack. Very heavily built. I liked it a lot, ran the rippers about 18" and it would not plug.
The deere unit is not adjustable like this, unless they have been changed. Just fyi..
