Subject: steep grade in a pickup

North End I-15
Pickup does not have 50,000 lb load pushing it . :>) Normal compression will hold it when letting off gas . Uncle put a exhaust brake on his Chev 2500 diesel years back . Don't recall how it worked as he sold pickup shortly there after.
Brother in law ran a fleet of trucks years back . He was the one who sold me my first 5 million mile Pete . His advise was @ top of pass slow down to gear that will hold truck with jake brake . Worked for me . The hill down to Sweet Grass is a brake burner lots of truckers top the grade @ 65/70 only to burn off the brakes to get stopped before hitting border baricades :>) I have to make a stop and right hand turn off the interstate to get to elevator . I'm usually @ 20 mph starting down the hill . Jake will hold it with no brakeing required till the stop sign . With out the jake the load will push the engine past the goverern'd speed . Jake worked better on the 8V92 @ lower engine rpm . The 3406B Cat is the same way .
