Are you saying that the towed pickup brake lights flash when you apply the brakes? Maybe you a re running the brake current in to the towed vehicle flasher hot lead instead of into the wires beyond the flasher?
If you are saying the wrong bulb is lighting up, you must have the wrong wire hooked to you brakes.
These wires can get confusing.
