Subject: Replacement for 846 Versy????

East Central SD
I'm just in the beginning stages of looking for a replacement for my 846. My first thoughts were to look for a 8760 or similar JD, but am starting to look at a few others on tractorhouse and similar sites. I'm taking some interest in a Cat, but have a few questions. Would a Challenger 55, rated at 225 hp be a sufficient replacement for my 846, which I believe is rated at 235? I hate to go down in hp, but would a newer tractor, especially one on tracks, make up the difference? Or do I need to be looking for a 65C or D (differences between the two models?) I like the idea of a row crop, especially a wide guage, so that someday I could put narrower tracks (assuming wide for tillage) and use if for planting/spraying, possibly grain cart. Another thing to consider- a PTO sure would be nice, but would consider a really nice tractor without one.

Thanks for the help,
Erik
