Don't know how "special" it has to be but can use GL4 gear lube it's safe on yellow metals.


There is debate on that and I don't know enough about it to have an opinion.

Those "safe for yellow metals" labels refer to using them in transmissions with yellow metal synchros. In that application you want friction between steel and brass and the oil is formulated for that. In a worm gear application you do not want friction between steel and brass, you want them to slide without friction.
