Subject: RE: Swing the header

Brazilton KS

Rich, you aren't going to swing a 22' flex head through anything. You probably can't even get through a 24' door if you "swing." The snouts are too long....it's a lot farther from the front end of the left snout to the right rear of the header then it is straight across.

Even with a 30' "swinging" through anything is a bit iffy.  With singles on the combine, you can drive up perpendicular, then back up until the tire is beside the cornerpost, then lock the brake and swing in.  With singles and the 30' you can gain some this way because there is quite a bit of head past the tire.  The snouts still make it not work near as well as on a rigid, though.  Duals make the machine enough wider, and reduce the sticky-outy part of the head enough to make swinging barely give an advantage over just going straight.

A rigid and a machine with singles will really do something.....on wheat harvest we went through gates which I bet were not over 24'
