I'm hoping this doesn't get into a situation of me finding out things I don't want to know!

I have a Linksys WRT54G, rev. v4.20.7, which dates Aug 2005. At one time, I had upgraded the bios to that version, but I haven't done a recent check for new versions. I see now that there have been a couple version upgrades since then for this router. One specifically says it is to address a security issue regarding uPnP. I will do the upgrade tonight to version 4.30.5; thanks for the push!

This is a very common router, so obviously the things you mention will be of interest to a lot more people than just me. I have actually turned off the wireless access as the laptop I was using for wireless has recently failed. However, I am the technical support person for my brother, and anything I learn here I can apply to his almost identical router (slightly newer, but same model number).
