Elmira, Ontario | Memory tends to fail me at times, so I was assuming the WEP you've been talking about is what I've used for security. In actuality, my two year old transmitter is using WPA TKIP. I understand that this security measure was designed to address the known issues with WEP. I also have SSID broadcast turned off. That makes it a bit harder to set up a wireless computer to access my network, but I always felt it was necessary. There are a variety of security choices on my router that I don't understand, but I feel reasonably secure with the above settings. I'm always open to more suggestions on what I can do.
Around my house, I've seen several networks, but all of them have security enabled. As you say, they probably can be cracked. At my brother's house, there is one network that is wide open and has been for over a year. It's quite easy to set his computer up to access the other network for internet browsing. I won't do that though, as I don't know what monitoring is happening on that network. |
