the adjusting bolts are just that. the 5/8 bolt is supposed to hold the chain tight, needs to be a good quality bolt with good washers, use 15/16 combination wrenches as cheaters together to tighten the 5/8 bolt. quit just before it twists off. We had that same problem with 1460 yrs ago when we first got it. We weren't getting those 2 bolts tight enough. Leave just enough slack in feeder chain so it misses the floor about 1/8 inch when pushed down from the top. Then adjust front idler for the crop you are harvesting=saves a lot of trouble and $$$.
