Time is the big issue for a farmer who is also in the tiling business. Depending on the spring, you may have a very narrow window to ditch before it is time to plant. This spring was just such for us. Was wet early and stayed wet. I had a 8 inch main that had blown out on my place. Was able to replace it and bury about 3k feet of laterals before it was planting time. With working in town, I have little time for ditching, relying on Dad to handle alot of it.
The fall is the same problem. Ideally, the ditcher should start running when the combines start to move. We only do our own tiling but it is the best money you can spend.
