a plow type is faster but a chain type will leave a tile that will work faster and better because a plow wedges the soil out and glazes the sides of the trench. Thats just my opinion, take it for what its worth. If I was doing it for myself I'd use the chain. If I wanted to get it done quick I'd use the plow.


On our soils, I've seen field-wide consistency in how quick a tile will start draining. Installed in the fall, next spring you can drive anywhere, no wet spots. It may be different for various subsoils. The old adage can be used here, "tile doesn't cost, it pays."
