Oh, maybe if it got a really thick stand and you got a 100 year rain event in September or Oct, maybe, but they call it a 100 year event for a reason.
I'd spend the 20 bucks an acre in chemical and just keep it clean. Then you have another 30 for fertilizer. And I seriously doubt that it will fix as much N as all the pubs say those things will. I think all of those things are written for, best case, absolutely perfect, scenarios.
I might be approaching it from the wrong angle though. My view of cover crops would be to limit the amount of sunlight & wind that make it to the ground to suck the moisture out in the fallow period.
But if glyph prices don't change soon, and diesel keeps dropping, it will be a moot point for me anyway b/c I'll be hooking back up to the sweeps... | |
