No you're on to something. I have to order a bunch of Weatherpack connectors for upcoming projects this winter and I don't see why I shouldn't just use one of them for this...maybe metri-pack is a better option with the quality of the connections needed.

If you can justify the initial cost, I would definitely recommend you take a look at going with Deutsch connectors for your projects:
