had it happen to my 2166. That dinky 12v motor is way under powered if you ask me. I had dirty threads that moves the sheave in and out. I got my dad to hold the button to slow it and got back there with pipe wrench to help it. Engine OFF! turned so all threads were exposed, took wire brush and penetrating oil, worked ever since.
1680 rotor, can't adjust rpms.
