Subject: 612 JD Corn Head

South of Springfield IL
I have ran the new 612 corn head now for a week. I really like it a lot. I'm taking in not as much trash as I was with the old 1293. I'm running the head at 470 to 510 rpm's at a ground speed of 3.5 mph. I'm running the deck plates tight and I am not seeing very much head shelling. Corn moisture is 19 to 25%. Since I'm not taking in so much trash I'm getting a better looking sample and also not seeing much coming out the back. The old 1293 I had to run the head very fast to get the stalks thur and the deck plates were wider than I wanted in dry afternoon conditions. I took in a lot of trash, which cause a over load condition on the screeens which is why I could run some over the back if I got going to fast. I think that deere did a good job with the design of this head. The stalks look nice behind it also.
