Subject: RE: Corn Harvest

Iowa

Thanks for the update.  When was this corn planted and what was the maturity of the hybrid?  How far north or south of highway 20?  I'm also in NE IA, but have not seen any corn fields harvested for grain yet, just chopping for silage.  It will be another week before I get into mine.  Given the year we've had, your variability comments are what I would have expected.

Edit:  I've driven across northern Iowa this weekend and noticed a lot of the corn looked brown.  Now that I've been back home HY 20, it looks like a lot of the corn got frosted, with only the hilltops remaining green.  We've had frost on the ground for a few mornings here.  It was not supposed to be a "killing frost", but a lot of this corn sure is starting to look dead.  A lot of the corn has not yet reached maturity.  Test weights will be down.
