Subject: Re: Fertilizer prices softening

Near-north Ontario, French River
The price may fall at the wholesale level but I have my doubts that retail prices will fall much. Problem is with supply relatively tight the retailers must buy a portion of next years needs NOW, to guarantee delivery for next spring. So say the price drops 20% between dec and may, but the retailers booked 80% of their expected sales in nov. Prices at the retailer might drop a small bit, but they will still be dealing with the higher price product they booked early so you would definately not see the full20% decline, maybe 5%. Add in the carrying charges associated with current high priced product and I suspect there will be little if any decline in price at the retail level even if there is significant drops in the wholesale prices.
