Little River, TX
I believe a long history of manure application can increase CEC by increasing the organic matter.
Just remember this is just a transitional phase, and must be kept up to maintain the CEC.

The biggest thing CEC effects for the usual US farm is he amount of nitrogen that can be applied and held by the soil.
With a less than 10 CEC you can apply a little Nitrogen preplant and then side dress the remainder.

Some of the put and take soils of East Texas nitrogen fertilizer usually runs out in 3 to 5 weeks. They are pleased as punch with a soil that holds nitrogen for more than 8 weeks. I have soils that the authorities voices say nitrogen will persist for 5 years. One field maintained productivity for 7 years, on the original application.

My advise is to not worry about how to change to something different, just learn how to produce with the soil at hand.
