I was headed to the bone yard east of me the other day. There are quite a few acres of seed corn grown there. This would be Kip Tom's neighborhood (actually he just rented 1800 acres close to us bringing his small operation to 20,000 so I guess I am in his heighbor hood). One thing I noticed were alot of seed corn with two male rows instead of the usuall one. This was 4-2-4-2-4 configuration. So my question is why? Perhaps a variety with poor pollination? Or staggered planting dates of male rows to allow longer pollination? |
