Subject: Spraying alfalfa while in dormancy

Parsons Kansas
Do any of you spray your alfalfa for weeds while in dormancy in the winter time? I have never done this becuase I don't understand how the chemical can work in the winter time. Also don't know what chemical to use. Is it really worth it and do you feel that you get a good weed kill in the spring. Like I said I don't understand how this works.
I have an alfalfa stand that is 8 years old this year. Been thinking the last 2 years about replacing it but after the last cutting in the fall the regrowth comes back really nice and I talk myself into another year of production. In the spring the first cutting will have alot of weeds in it then it starts to "clean up" on the second cutting etc,. Thought about spraying during dormancy to try to clean it up for that first cutting in the spring to see if that would help. Thanks Darren
