How much abuse can a rotary IHcombine take (rotor)?

When you get those sounds, the first thing to be endangered is the concave holder pipe and mounts- slugging can stretch or break these. Many otherwise cherry combines have had these mounts stretched by slugging on swaths. Repairable.

Next to go would be the rotor drive belt-unless of course you have one of the new super-strength ones-then the drive coupler to the rotor may fail.

Never stretched or sprung a concave- have knocked some bars loose with rocks - but have done all of the others mentioned here.

Remember- if you can keep rotor speed up, the material will keep feeding rather than get rolled into a ball and slug

An IH is down right comfortable to run through slugs compared to my memories of our old tr-70- --even an uneven wheat swath would maKE YOU BELIEVE THE SEAT WAS IN EJECTION MODE.
