You can erase Tasks without erasing Boundaries. Boundaries are tied to the Field, so if you erase Fields, or if you erase GPS Data, you'll take the Boundaries off too. But you can safely erase Tasks.
Still could be a software issue; newer software may be more efficient at writing data to the card, so if you have old software, that could be part of the problem. Just a thought.
