Dayton, IA | 2009 crop year on I will have about 80 acres of oats with straw to bale in the rotation plus 10 to 15 acres of alfalfa. I can hire neighbors to bale for $0.50/bale, or I can buy a baler and accumulator/grapple and do it myself. About 4500 bales per year. Custom charge would run $2500/year. Probably have to spend $15,000 to get decent equipment to do the job myself. How much hay would a person suggest to justify owning a baler. If I bought a baler /accumulator what would you suggest? Just looking from a dollars standpoint, have labor and plenty of tractors, just have to add a baler or call a neighbor. | |
