nc ks | Don't know what the 'proper' angle is, but we have our 1010's set so they rub under the header before the sickle gouges. We even cut some soys with a 30' back when before we had a flex. Worked pretty well on our flat ground because you could feel a slight drag and lift just slightly and run it right above the ground. Wouldn't want to do that on rolling ground though.
I might add that we rarely have to clean dirt out of the headers even when cutting down wheat. Back when we had the Gleaners, we were always digging dirt out in tough conditions.
