Set your multimeter on ohms and touch one probe to the connection on the wiring and one probe to the body of the clutch. That will tell you if the clutch windings are breaking down. One the ground wire,the needle should go all the way to the right. Touch the other wire and the body and you should get no reading at all.If it does that would indicate a shorted coil. Look closely where the wires come out of the clutch for any bare wires.
