I will argue. They are not common sense presently. Yes, there should be some buffer zone. But, not down to the ground for a 5 s.m. radius, unless it's a higher-traffic airport. 4 miles can be a long ways from a seldom used airport when you have farm fields all within that 3 mis & seldom see planes, and certainly not in traffic patterns. Drones will be restricted to 400'. The 5 mile restriction needs to be reviewed per runway configuration, instrument landing approach & departure paths, and other common entry routines, depending on terrain. Normally aircraft climb to 400' AGL before making their first turn...normally. I realize we aren't talking ag aircraft that may not even reach 400' for cruising. Maybe these airports will be reviewed & redefined on this FAA App. Hopefully these restrictions will be viewable on conventional computers vs cell phones only. Not sure why the feds made them app-only so far. |
