The 5 sensor system is for the severe terrain package. It is for boom lengths longer than 90', or extremely adverse terrain.
This is the key point. I believe that in a number of cases, the NORAC 5 sensor system has gotten a bad name because it was installed where a 3 sensor system should have been installed.
