Subject: RE: Kinze/Deere planters-Opinions?? Vac or Finger pickup??

I purchased a set of new Precision finger pickup meters for my Kinze planter this year. The seed spacing was excellent. I would purchase them again. I cannot compare them to a vac planter.

I have a set of Martin floating row cleaners and a set of Martin spiked closing wheels on the planter with Keeton seed firmers that put on seed applied fertilizer. Again, I would purchase these items again.

I have the heavy duty Kinze single disc fertilizer openers with a gauge wheel. They run on a slight angle to the row. As the opener goes thru the soil, it losens a zone of soil 3 inches wide and 2 inches deep for the seed openers to run in. There are no coulters. This set up works well. After I sold the cows, I planted oldstand hay fields and got excellent results. I wiuld set up another planter this way.

I farm in western Ohio and have Miami, Crosby, Celina, and a little Brookston for soil types.
