Subject: RE: How big of generator do I need for a 180 amp welder?

Southwestern Ohio
Hello, notice this post because I just recently purchased a portable generator as well. Have questions on getting an extension cord to plug in the 120/240 Volt AC, 30 Amp locking receptacle. Would like to go at least 30 ft, (prefer 50' (maybe 75' - 100'). I have been checking the 50amp cords used for RVs. Do I need a seperate cords for working with 120 volts or the 240 volts? I am assuming I would need at least 10 guage (probably 8 guage or ?). At this distance is the voltage dropoff going to be a problem?

Sorry for the questions but maybe someone would know the answers or a source for me to reference.

Thanks
