Subject: RE: How big of generator do I need for a 180 amp welder?

Hutchinson, MN
FWIW, i just bought a 5550 watt generator, with 8550 starting watts. I hooked it up to our OLD Lincoln stick welder...180 amp @ 25 volts. I can weld about for about ten seconds before it kicks out the breaker on the generator. Now, i don't plan on doing any/much welding in the field, but in a pinch, I could make it work to get something home to fix it better.

P.S. The generator was bought to run a large camper 1st, farming items 2nd.
