in about 1982, my dad Was swathing his clover, and cut off the rear right leg on a fawn, about knee high. It ran off with momma, and he thought nothing of it, being as good as a dead deer and all, until the following year when he saw the yearling three lgged deer. We saw it around the farm for about 5 o so years, and you know what, It gave birth to several sets of fawns all with no rear right legs. It was amazing!!!
O.K., so I embelished at the end there, but it did survive several years. Imagine getting your leg cut off with a swather, running away to the bush, and laying down with no medical attention. think you'd ever get up, let alone outrun the bears and coyotes, and live for at least five years producing offsping? Didn't think so...
Hardly fair - if I got a leg cut off, I'd only have one left. The deer still had three! :) |
