CIH/Steiger 4x4 tractors use a transmission built in Japan and I think it is called a Fuji-Tekko transmission. They have used this tranny since they were pea green but the new ones are much improved over the early ones. And you don't have to start at the bottom each time anymore. Don't know anything about the JD except that I had heard the old powershift was a Twin-Disc. My guess is that the new one is probably made by JD themselves and a similar design to those used in the 8xxx series tractors.
