Subject: Re: refuge rows with planter

SW MN and Gold Canyon AZ
I just put 8 rows one end of the 16 row planter till 20 % is gone Then we can see the yield data when combining. I always keep everything in 8 rows strips now for yield data purposes. I avoid planting the refuge corn on the edges of the fields for 2 reasons, there are more corn borer next to ditches and waterways and fence lines. The edges of the fields get more wind also ,so non-bt corn would tend to fall over or lean easier there then in the field. If I have a field with some sandy ground then the refuge goes there. I will take the time to clean planter boxes and strip that area. No sense putting 200$ a bag VT3 in those areas that don't yield year in year out.
