Galahad, Alberta | So you would promote having both a seed opener in the ground as well as a fertilizer coulter? Why double up the amount of iron in the ground? Why not use one opener to do both, and keep costs down? It has been proven time and again that seed placed fertilizer is far better than a separate band that the plant has to grow out to find. Not so critical with N but vital for P,K, and S, that are not mobile.
If you are referring to tissue tests and doing a foliar application, it makes sense to give the plant what it needs rather than guessing and putting it all on at seeding or even the fall before, but the practice has never caught on "here". Not sure why, maybe the current price will make people rethink that.
