Central Texas | We used to think we didn't have to worry about losing N in our black ground either, but back in 2004, we used a dry blend applied at the end of Dec. 2003. We had some rain after applying it and before we planted corn about the middle of March 2004. When the corn was about shoulder high we started getting yellow leaves on the bottom. We started getting concerned and some neighbors got someone from the experiment station in Temple to check for N in the soil. They checked several feet deep and found no N. Other neighbors that had used liquid blends had good corn, those of us that used the dry had one of the poorest crops we ever had besides severe drought years. The fertilizer was plowed in after application also. I'm not sure exactly what happened but I won't use dry again. | |
