Macon, IL | I live 10 miles from a city with relatively high crime rate in some areas, mostly poor and drug related. I am amazed that they haven't gotten wise to coming out to the rural areas and robbing farmers, stealing from shops, etc. Thank god.
There was a string of shop breakins in our area one spring about 20 years ago when I was in high school. One fella came home and saw a strange pickup backed up to his shop door-grabbed deer rifle out of truck and yelled for the guy to come out. He came out and took of running across the field towards another house. Farmer went in and called his neighbor and told him the guy was coming and then police-as he approached he was met by the neighbor with a 12 gauge. Another u-turn towards 3rd house-with the same result. By this time the police where there and from what I understood the now exhausted thief was pretty glad to see them and ran to the police car.
Those guys were legends in the area for a while. I wish they all turned out that way. | |
