In addition for the benefit of readers, the main purpose of the FCC (aside from maintaining the media moguls' television empires) is to ensure that the scarce resource called 'radio spectrum' is allocated fairly for the use of the community. If everyone did what they wanted without regard to their neighbors then the spectrum would quickly become unusable. That's right, no one would enjoy the productivity of autosteer because interference would render the radio systems useless.
In the end, it's is all about being a good neighbor... just like ensuring spray drift doesn't adversely affect your neighbors crop. If you want long-range and high power, you needed to get licensed radios.
