The moisture is a good point. Dad's about a gallon a day of coffee and likes being "out in it" when ripping in the fall. I'll bet the window gets left open more often than not at night! I'll give the switch a try. Traced wires EVERYWHERE even to the brake pedal switches. I have a CIH service manual, but it proved weak in troubleshooting this.
